Cantay House 1

Introduction

Cantay House, Oxford

Cantay House is a mixed-use redevelopment on Park End Street, close to Oxford railway station.

Elwood acquired the property off-market in 2023. It comprised a mix of office, retail, leisure and nightclub uses, with multiple tenancies and a complex planning position. The team worked through the existing occupational arrangements, engaged with local stakeholders and secured consent for the refurbishment and redevelopment of the building. The approach brought together asset management, planning and design to find a practical route forward for a constrained heritage site.

Rather than replace the existing building, the scheme works with its historic fabric and distinctive character. Key elements will be retained and restored, while new interventions will adapt the property for modern use. The aim is to create a building that is specific to its Oxford setting: one that respects its past while meeting the needs of the city and future occupiers.

The completed development will provide approximately 30,000 sq ft of workspace, alongside hospitality space, landscaped courtyards and publicly accessible amenities. It is targeting BREEAM Excellent and improved environmental performance.

Located beside Oxford station, Cantay House is also well positioned within the wider regeneration of the surrounding area.

Kingerlee has been appointed as main contractor, construction is underway and completion is expected in 2027.
